Dreamcatcher Gourd – My Second Gourd Project

Dreamcatcher Gourd – My Second Gourd Project

IMG_0824When I first discovered Dani Montoya’s gourd art classes at her Yellow Cottage Studio in Poteau, Ok., I was absolutely enthralled. I had spotted this type of sophisticated gourd art around but never dreamed I’d find a teacher in Oklahoma. Her Dreamcatcher class was my second at her studio and I took my 82 year-old aunt and my sister with me. We had a blast!

Aunt Don and sister Mary were far better at the actual weaving on this gourd project. As you can see, mine became rather tangled. But the class further drew me into the world of gourd art and as I left the class, I knew I would pursue it seriously as an art form.

A bottle gourd, my Dreamcatcher measures 8″ x 5.5″.  When dyeing, I prefer to swirl a number of colors together rather than use a single dye. I believe the pictures tell the rest of the story. Oh, wait – they don’t tell how patiently Dani worked with me repeatedly in class to untangle my weaving!

Not for sale, I’m using this only for sharing and teaching purposes. I have more gourd projects underway right now that I’ll list for sale.

Vicky
